Hi all
Stumbled upon this forum at lunch time and you seem like a happy bunch, so thought I'd give it a go. Never done a forum before so please excuse if I drop the odd clanger. I've had P for about 13 years (I have always been a late starter). Sadly non of the topicals or UV have had any success. Sort of wrestling with the thought of hitting the 'hard' stuff now.

Hello John,

You bet we are a happy bunch. Big Grin
Despite our common problems of psoriasis or PsA, we come here for help, supporting words, but also for some fun in the Off Topic section.

13 years of Psoriasis and nothing helps... Yes, than it may be time to try something "stronger". There is quite some around, but for you it would be the systemics (pills) or the biologicals (injections). Take your time and do look around, and..... ask questions to the ones who use certain medications you want to know more about.

And another thing, have fun with us !

Cheers,
Caroline

Evenin to you John  Smile  and I'm glad you have found us  Welcome welcome to a great forum where you will be made to feel at home, the site is packed with information that Fred has put together in the health boards.
Yes we pride ourselves on being a happy place to come where as a member you can discuss treatments or talk about what's working or not working. Here we are all sufferers and although we don't have all the answers. There's usually plenty of advice on offer.
You are also welcome to join in any of the topics in the off topic section which tends to be light hearted. Or join us in the chatting thread for idle chatter

Yes I think you are right time to move on up to something that will work.... That will probably be methotrexate as that is a common starter. It's very effective and many on here use it......I started on that but it disagreed with me so they put me on my current treatment
Good luck I hope to hear more from you Thumb
Jim

Thanks for the warm welcome. Looks like I have a lot of reading up to do before I can put the angle grinder and wire brush away (for the itching)

Yep it's a hard slog but thankfully today things are getting better and there is a lot more treatment available to give us back our life, and better still more and more is being studied as it is classified as an Autoimmune Disorder by most countries.

I would say as you have tried topicals and light it's time to move up and give the oral treatments a try. Are you seeing a dermatologist? If not get referred to one they are better suited to help you and 13 years is long enough to get you moved up to the next level.

Yes I have a tame dermy Doc. They are kind of thin on the ground around here so I'm holding on to them with all my might. A couple of the Nurses started a Self Help Group but unfortunately was not very well attended.

Could be worth asking them if they know about this.

It's good to have a good relationship with your dermatologist, is it at the hospital? If so you could discuss the options of methotrexate, Acetretin or Fumaderm at your next visit
Acitretin

Methotrexate

Fumaderm
