Yes they certainly are, having lived here in France for 23 years (from the UK) we live in the wilds of the country side and have to be very wary especially for the dog, looking for them in her fur almost every day, even though she gets an anti tic treatment once a month. I have had a tick on me twice and my wife the same over the years, the great problem is the risk of limes disease, hence a two week treatment of very strong antibiotic.
