Aloha,

Just searched google to see if there was a forum for Psorisasis so I thought i'd say hello!

I devoped scalp psoriasis about 4 years ago when I was 19. The area was initially about the size of a fingernail and has now spread to the entire back of my head. I didn't know what it was and put off going to the doctor for ages. Once I got it diagnosed it was easier to find treatment and i've managed to calm it down with a variety of lotions and shampoos Smile

It can be embarassing when i'm out as it can flake and make it look like I have bad dandruff. I don't tell anyone about it because I doubt they'd understand. Recently i've been attacking it with medicated shampoo, E45 cream, anti itch E45 cream, Bio-oil and whatever else I can lay my hands on! I'm glad to report that it's calmed down and is the best it's been for years.

It's caused problems with relationships, it's unsighly and basically a royal pain in the arse! I just wanted to find some people that could relate to me really.

All the best,

Sam.

Hello Sam Welcome to Psoriasis Club

We can relate to how you feel, and you will find us a small but friendly bunch of people.

Mine started with a small patch on my scalp too, and yes it can affect relationships. But the more you are open about it the easier you will find it to live with, and if someone isn't supportive then I wouldn't worry to much about it. We all can't help what we look like, and psoriasis can suddenly strike anyone at any time.

Try not to be embarrassed by it, but if you are just come here and talk. We don't care what you look like and you don't have to sweep up after yourself either. Big Grin

Regards.

Fred.

Cheers Fred, I appreciate it.

Haha the sweeping! The curse of psoriasis Big Grin I suppose it's just something i've got to get used to.

I don't let it get me down though, I just try to remember that there's always someone worse off than me.. not in a bad way, but just to put things into perspective.

Welcome

Hi Sam,

Scalp psoriasis is a pain, I used to suffer extremely bad with it...tried loads of things but only ever eased it for a little while.

I keep banging on about it but seriously give head and shoulders menthol a try, I used it one day as I had run out of all my prescription shampoo and thought what the heck.....I noticed improvement straight away I even wrote to the company begging them to look into getting onto prescriptions ... But for some reason they can't.

But well worth a shot (although I know what works for one doesn't work for another)

Cheers Hanna!

I'll have a go at it. I've been using medicated shampoo and it's helped a lot to be honest in my case. I get the impression that no 2 cases are alike with psoriasis and random things can sometimes have an effect. Smile

Hi Sam,

Welcome to the forum!! I have pretty severe scalp and body psoriasis and know how embarrassing the flakes can be, especially if you are fond of wearing black like I am Wink. I would recommend treating your scalp with warm olive oil a couple of times a week. I warm a small bowl in the microwave for about 30 seconds and massage it into the worst areas of my scalp, leave it for an hour and then wash my hair using lush shower jelly (made with seaweed agar and natural ingredients so gentle on the skin/scalp).

This helps to soften and remove the larger plaques and minimises flaking.

Krissie
