Hi Everbody,

My name is Jamie, and I'm from the UK. I live on the most easterly point of England.

I'm new to this forum but one of the reasons I have joined is that I have Psoriasis on my face have done for say 8 years now. I'm looking for a way of managing it and wondered if any other males out there could give me some advice. The reason I say males is that it is really shaving which is the problem.

I went to the dead sea and got cleared. In some areas of my body the remission period lasted over a year but on my face it was literally back after 2 weeks. This I believe is due to shaving. Ok, Psoriasis is under the skin but by shaving we form a small injury thus allowing the psoriasis to reappear - the skin is always vulnerable especially there.

If anybody has any suggestions, advice or experiences I would be so pleased to hear from you.

I will be active on here posting various things and I look forward to hearing from you

Kind regards
Jamie

Hello Jamie Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

We have some other East Anglia members, I was one but now living in France.

Sorry can't help with the shaving, I've had a beard since I was about 20. But you could try the following.

Coconut Oil: I'm a big fan of coconut oil as it is natural and won't hurt your skin, there is a thread about it here: Coconut Oil

Dexeryl: Not sure if you can get it in the UK, I can get it on prescription and it's very gentle and can be used on babies.

Other prescribed creams that could help and I have used on my face Silkis & Dovonex. *But please check with a professional first, and DONT use Dovobet on your face.
More on Dovonex / Dovobet here: Dovobet And Dovonex (What's the difference ?)

This thread may also help with your choice: Harmful Ingredients in Skincare Products

I hope that helps a bit and hopefully we have some clean shaven people who can help more.

Please keep us updated and you're welcome to start a new thread about it in Psoriasis And Psoriatic Arthritis Topics where it may get a better answer.

Regards.

Fred.

Welcome!

I have a bit of psoriasis on my face and on my eyelid. I use a Desonide to clear it up. However, I would not use a steroids around the eye unless you have supervision by your dermatologist.

Also, shaving soap may also be adding to your flare. Even the moisturizing soap tends to dry out your skin. You may also be allergic to the soap. Your dermatologist should know the best type of shaving soap + blade to use that may minimize your issues.

Face psoriasis is rare and typically hard to treat. An alternative medicines that might help is Protopic. Protopic is a topological used for eczema, but does work for psoriasis and can be safely used on the face for longer periods than traditional steriods. The only drawback is many people get a burning sensation when applied.

Thanks everybody for sharing your advice already I have loads of new options to try. I will keep you all up to date with my experiences (hopefully positive).

At the moment I'm using champori but that has a horrible smell and just disguises the psoriasis as opposed to healing the skin.

If you chat to your doctor and ask him for an ointment called Silkis, I find this holds the Psoriasis at bay.
I have some on hand all the time as it helps and is easy to apply on the face and spreads very well.
Good Luck with it

Thanks Micky

I wondered how long you have been using this for and if you have noticed any thinning of the skin because of it.

I'll probably still give it a go anyway as things are a bit desperate at the minute and the strange thing is this year the sun has not touched it at all, where as usually it clears my skin up and the p returns in the autumn and winter.

The added complication to facial p is shaving. I believe by shaving I am in a sense mildly injuring the skin which in turns leave my skin vulnerable to the P. I dry shave as I have not found any shaving foam which I would trust and in any case wet shaving would injure my skin more than dry shaving, but I might be wrong.

Thanks again
