Last week the prices for Psorinovo went up due to a sudden rise in the raw material of DMF.
Someone seems to do a lot of buying. What could be behind that? Bi***n ??
At least it seems as if some industry has discovered the potential value.

Are you beating around the bush again Caroline, was you referring to Biogen or Biocon ?

Latest information reveals that the recent publication a few posts back, was put on the internet 1 day after the earlier post, on the PML issue. In the same magazine.
Also it appears that one of the writers of the last publication, is mr. Van Oosten, connected to rheumatology here in Amsterdam. He has relations to earlier research on fumaderm. I know his name from the time I was in contact with rheumatology in Amsterdam.

DMF is key ingredient in the new MS drug. I'm sure they don't want people to buy a cheaper psoriasis drug. Makes sense to buy as much of the supply as they can.

Yes it's common practice for large companies, they will even go to the extreme of buying up a competitor to then close them down. Thumbsdown

@Mataribot you have a 1 week old PM waiting for you. Wink

What I heard today about Fumaderm, from quite a good source.

Fumaderm is a combined substance of mono-ethylfumarate and dimethylfumarate. Purpose of the mono-ethylfumarate was to enhance the effectivity. Scientific research shows that no working effect can be shows of the Mono-EF….
In other words, it appears to be useless and can be left out.

Hi Caroline,

From a toxicity study I read, DMF at 5 mg/kg/day given to monkeys caused no harm, whereas at 25 mg/kg/day and higher adverse changes in organs were noted. I'd be interested to see studies at 10 and 15, as these are closer to the therapeutic range, but as you point out, monitoring is essential.

The side effects I had were bad, but I have read accounts of people on Fumaderm who seemed to find it tougher than me. Isabelle's experience is one example. Taking the drug with food is very important, but that wont spare you the side effects of the monomethyl fumarate, which for me included severe headaches.

Cheers,

Bill

Hello Bill,

On our side, here in the Netherlands we already know that the monoethylfumarate in the combination preparate, makes no sense. It does not do anything for the psoriasis.
DMF is the part that is the real working substance. So my medication only contains DMF.

My side effects in contrast to yours, have been much milder because of the slow release of my medication. I don't even have to take them with food.
The effects are limited to a bit of irregular intestines, and flushes specifically in the building up phase.

A recently found side effect of the flushes is with a patient over here, who suffered psoriasis and meunière. Since he uses DMF, his meunière problem is gone. Medics suspect this is the result the flushes that open the little vains, so also the hearing organ has a better supply of blood which seems to be very positive to fighting meunière.

Cheers,
Caroline

Hi Caroline,

DMF is very reactive and has a metabolic half life of a few minutes, so it converts to MMF very quickly after absorption. The MMF has a metabolic half life of about 1 hour and causes the flushing you experience via its action as a nicotinic acid receptor agonist. Both substances have an anti-inflammatory effect, but the precise mechanism is not currently understood.

Cheers,

Bill
