Question  Thu-04-12-2014, 10:07 AM
Hi,
I am new here and have a question about Psorinovo. I'm 27 years old and have psoriasis since elementary school. Till now I have tried all kind of medications and my psoriasis had it's ups and downs. My doctors treated me with Beloderm, Belosalic, Monsalic or Elocom. I have tried phototherapy once but the results were poor. This week I changed my doctor from dermatologist to homeophat doctor who has an M.D. He prescribed me Psorinovo but didn't have concrete answers about using it before getting pregnant. I want to have a baby but maybe will have to go to I.V. next year, he told me if I get pregnant to stop the treatment.
Does anyone have any data about Psorinovo and pregnancy? Should I even start the treatment? I know it takes some time to get the results and don't want to wait that long with having a baby. Is it enough to stop using Psorinovo once I find out I'm pregnant or should I stop using it months before my pregnancy?
thanks

Hello Micamaca Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

I will send a message to Caroline for you she is best qualified to answer Psorinovo questions.

She will get back to you probably later.

Regards.

Good morning Micamara firstly I would like to offer you a big Welcome to the club. And to tell you you are in the right place to discuss psorinovo. I am on a similar drug Fumaderm ( the same active ingredient) and in the notes on mine it says stop if you become pregnant..... But I would rather Caroline explained more as she is on psorinovo and can give you the facts.
Enjoy your time with us there is a lot of information here about psorinovo in the dimethyfumerate threads
Good luck and hope to see more of you here
Jim

Hello Micamaca,

Welcome to the forum.

I have checked with the expert in this field.
1) no Psorinovo, or any form of DMF during pregnancy.
2) if you already know that you want to get pregnant, then I should not start with Psorinovo, that does not make sense..
3) absolutely avoid any chemicals like MTX, cyclosporine, acetrecitin (or whatever that is called), basically avoid every psoriasis treatment.

So you are in kind of a balance. When do you want to get pregnant?
Psorinovo takes a few months to get working. It is not logical to start with the treatment when you want to get pregnant in a few months.
If you are aiming at e.g. a year, well then you might start. If it works for you, you will at least be clear when you have to stop.
I would take at least 2 months off medication before starting to get pregnant.

Hope you have something on these remarks.

Caroline.

Thank you all for helping me Smile
Caroline, I will not start Psorinovo. Reading your reply I see that my doctor should not have advised me to even start it.
I'm trying to get pregnant for some time now and hope it will happen soon. If not I will try IVF in February or March. I told him all these things. He prescribed
Psorinovo,
Solgar, Zinc Picolinate
Thorne Research, Niacinamide
Garden of Life, Primal Defense, Powder, HSO Probiotic Formula
all together with some kind of sirup Molkosan.

I think I will get all this other things as he told me they are perfectly safe for pregant women.
I started with Belosalic now again because I can't stand all the itching but once I stop with it I get my psoriasis back in 2 daysConfused
thanks
Micamaca

Good decision micamaca it's just not worth the risk , if you are trying now for a baby it's a definite Nono I don't know of the other things in the list but you have made a wide decision not taking the psorinovo
Good luck and I hope you get your little one soon then as soon as you finish breast feeding will be a good time to start

I've had a look and, yes the above are safe for you. But unfortunately there isn't much that can help with psoriasis that will work well whilst trying to get pregnant.

Hi Micamaca! As you can see this is a great place for getting information. I just wanted to say hello and wish you good luck. Hopefully you will be able to find something safe to keep the itchiness away until you can be more aggressive in your treatment.

Hello Micamaca.

I still owe you the official reaction of the Dutch Psorinovo community and the doctor behind that, it is as follows. translated.

We advise to not use Psorinovo during pregnancy or a pregnancy that has been planned, this because it never has been a subject of research (e.g. In animal tests) if the embryo is damaged during the forming of the organs, so called "organogenesis". Damage of egg cells or male seed, respectively oƶgenesis and spermatogenesis is not to be expected. So men who use Psorinovo don't have to expect damaging effects for their children.
The most difficult question is of course how many time there should be with the female user between her last tablet of Psorinovo and the moment of getting pregnant. From perspective of precaution we advise that the woman with the child wish should let pass a period of 3 months between the last tablet and the first try to get pregnant.
This time is based on the fact that anyone who uses Psorinovo and stops the treatment mostly has her psoriasis back after three months, which shows that apparantly the influence of Psorinovo has stopped.

Caroline
