My Derm wants me to try Acitretin if my legs don't clear from UVB. But there seems to be quite a lot of side effects from acitretin. He also wants me to use it for 3 months then come off it, my concern is that coming off it will cause a flare up.

I'm considering discussing Fumaderm with him but have read that Psorinovo is a better pill since it's enteric coated. I was wondering if it possible to get Psorinovo in the UK?

If not, is it possible to go to the Netherlands to get treated and have the durg sent over?

Thanks

It's not registered for use in the UK so you won't be able to get it prescribed or purchase it there.

As for treatment in The Netherlands Caroline may be able to help, but I'm still not sure if you would legally be able to import it into the UK.

Yes Fred is right I don't think you have any chance of Psorinovo over here you can ask but I think I know the answer
By the way welcome to the forum there is a lot of interesting posts on here regarding both psorinovo and Fumaderm ... I honestly have had minimal side effects with Fumaderm and would strongly advise you to push for that.... I'm not saying it doesn't have side effects and everyone is different how the side effects manifest themselves.. I found them very manageable and reassuring.., even before it started working the fact I was getting the side effects of intestinal cramps and flushes meant it was affecting my body and as long as the effects were not extreme I found it easy to cope .....and when it did start working .... Well I've never been as clear in all my adult life.. It's truly remarkable
So I would talk to your dermatologist and tell him you are concerned about using acetretin and that you have been discussing with users Fumaderm and ask if it's possible .., certainly mention Psorinovo but I think it may confuse him/ her
In the meantime come and read all the information you can on here and I will return in a few minutes with some links for you to look at
Jim

I've sent a PM asking Caroline, so she will respond when she gets time.

But for now I've just found this old post. RE: Queen Mary University to develop a targeted approach to psoriasis treatment

Where she said.

You can only get it at Steunpunt Apotheek Mierlo-Hout, at Mierlo-Hout, in the Netherlands. They will send it abroad if you order it there though. Only problem is the insurance of course.

Oh and  Welcome to Psoriasis Club by the way.

Here's a bit of reading also on here about Fumaderm

My intro Introduction Jiml

There are also these experiences to look at
My journey on furmederm starts
[Group Specific]
Should I come off Fumaderm?

There are many others on here some have had a good experience a few not so lucky and had to stop . But my feeling is it's very good and you have a night chance of success and if it works and you can reduce your tablets as I have (I'm now on 3 a day but some are on just 1 tablet as a maintenance dose)

Hi

Thanks for the help so far, much appreciated. Regarding insurance, does that mean it's only available with Dutch health insurance?

Yes as far as I know, so IF you can legally import it you will have to pay out of your own pocket, plus you may have to pay for your own blood test etc as it's not available on the NHS.

I'm with Jim give Fumaderm a try first, as it's now available on the NHS and you have to be monitored when using any form of DMF. (Unless you go it alone like Bill and do it all yourself) Bill's pure dimethylfumarate thread

*Caroline has been back to me and will try to give a better answer for you later this evening.  Thumb

Sorry to but in but as we don't have insurance here in the UK it will be up to your dermatologist what will be available whilst we have people in Ireland and Poland on psorinovo which may or may not be being paid for by their insurance we in the UK have only the choices that have been approved by NICE and as far as I know psorinovo isn't on the list ... But Caroline may well prove me wrong ....but it is just the way I understand it

Oh and  Welcome to Psoriasis Club by the way.

That is exactly what I wanted to answer.
As far as I know you just order it, they put it in a package and send it to you. I don't see a reason why they should intercept it at the customs.

Indeed I guess the insurance will not cover it, unless you have a very flexible insurance company.
What you could do is ask them if they pay for Dimethylfumarate, irrespective of the container it is in. That is how it works with me. The insurance covers the working substance. The fact that it is enteric coated and slow release (this last is also very important, and Fumaderm doesn't have it) does not matter over here.
The formula enteric coated and slow release, and the fact that it is only DMF, is the big difference with Fumaderm. That last has a number of additives added in order to prevent problems in your stomach. The additives limit the maximum dose of Fumaderm to 6x120. With Psorinovo there is basically nu upper limit and many people need a bit more, depending on the seriousness of the psoriasis.

If you need an exact address I can send that to you.

From what I've read from those links, does the stomach cramps and gut problems subside over time? Do they ever go away completely the longer you're on the medication? I think I could handle the hot flushes as it seems they are quite infrequent and only a short time.

Thanks
