Reading the NHS document regarding Fumaderm, it suggests that Fumaderm be used when other systemic drugs have been tried and deemed not useful.  So it seems like I might have to try Acetretin first?  or is this not the case?

That's probably why your dermatologist said three months on Acitretin, He's following the protocol which he has to do unfortunately.

But didn't those first couple of tablets make you feel really really bad. ? This thread may lead you to some side effects that you didn't like Wink
Acitretin

*Yes I know I shouldn't be doing that, but it's time they changed the protocol in my opinion.

With me it was methotrexate first .... When you fail,or cannot tolerate it, that was when I was offered Fumaderm or Acetretin for me there was no contest.... i think I made the right choice although acetretin mat we'll have worked .

My issue is. At the moment my body is clear/clearing but my legs are slow to respond. I have 8 sessions left to clear my legs. If i go on Acetretin for 3 months it may work and I have the side effects but the biggest issue is that coming off it will probably cause a bad flare, I've yet to read about anyone who has came off and didn't get a bad flare. I'll make another post asking about this. Also the drug causes flare ups are the start of the course as well.

So should I risk it or see if my guttate psoriasis clears by itself after the UVB if my legs haven't cleared by then? I've read that guttate psoriasis will clear up on it own eventually.

Q ..... You are the only one who can answer the question should I wait and see

I only know what I would do, and I would not give it a chance to come back.... I was in a similar position to you when I started on Fumaderm . I don't know your age but I'm getting on in years now and I have been through a lot of treatments and nothing I had been on gave me lasting clearance if I stopped any treatment the psoriasis came back. ........Now I can happily live my life taking three little tablets a day if it keeps my skin clear
And I can virtually forget psoriasis

NOO !!!
This man lives in the past. This idea is soo old.
Dmf should be one of the first ones to try because it is by far more harmless than any other.
The new 2014 guidelines, at least in the Netherlands, show this better insight.

I wasn't going to chime in as most of the discussion in on Psorinovo and Furmaderm and the NHS. All of which I have very little knowledge of. My mind is that different medications is better for different people and that we are not all the same so what is best for one person is not necessarily the best for another. Anyway, Q, I am on Acitretin and I am not one who would recommend it nor recommend you stay away from it. I don't like taking anything to be honest, but treatment is important. I just wanted to throw that out there should you have any questions on Acitretin (but I can only speak from my personal experience) should you be required to take it first.

Most importantly, I hope you find and are able to get what works for you!

I guess I'll cross that road when I get to it.

Kat - What side effects do you have from Acetretin? Did you have a flare up at the start of the regime?

Caroline - What would I need to do to see a dermatologist in the Netherlands and get treated? Would I need particular health insurance? Is Psorinovo expensive without insurance?

I thought I should give a little background about myself. I'm 39 and have always ate healthily and exercised regularly then last October I had a flare up of Guttate Psoriasis, first time. No one else in my family has it so it's not hereditary. I did have some insect bites from my holiday weeks previous which did not seem to get better, also I had a slight sore throat but I don't think it was a strep throat infection. My derm thinks those were my triggers. I've been getting UVB treatment and have 8 sessions left and then it may be onto Acetretin and no I'm here. Smile I've cut out nightshades, gluten and processed sugar as much as I can. I take high dose vitamin D3/K2, Magnesium, Zinc and Selenium and fish oils. I've been jucing and incorporate a couple of glasses of geen juice a day. But generally I've always ate healthily and cooked most of meals, processed meals now and then. I kind of feel really angry that it's happened to me even though I've kept myself really fit and healthy all these years, I've also stopped drinking not that I drank much before last October anyways and have never smoked ever. Just sheer bad luck I guess like the rest of us.

Yes it has no preferences this psoriasis it will choose anyone any time . So the only thing any of us can do is try to find a way to control it. You are doing a lot of the right things with diet, although I found it made no difference to my psoriasis . So I decided have what I fancy when I fancy it. And that way my life is less stressful... But each to their own if you enjoy cutting these things out and you don't miss them. I applaud you I just wish I had will power I also enjoy a drink ( does that sound bad Blush )
I wish you much luck and rapid clearance..... whichever path you take and as Kat has said what works for one doesn't for someone else.. There is no one fix for all unfortunately Thumb
