I know the side effects from them all too well so I'll be able to tell pretty quick if anything is out of kilter.

Ok if there's anything else I'm sure the oracle Wink will let us know

Yes she does know Jim, and I will confirm what she has said there is no interaction between the two so it will be fine.   Thumb

Hey, hey, I'm not an oracle !!! Tongue
I have said that I do not know of any interaction between DMF and other medications.
Reason for that is relatively logical. DMF is a substance that is normal for you body, everyone uses it in his own cell energy cycle.

Still I would prefer myself that MaDbEaR would go off the cyclosporine more quickly.
A question, is the cyclosporine in tablets? If so perhaps break them in parts and try to go quicklier and more gradual to 75, 50, 25 mg

I understand the strategy of the derm, trying to prevent a flare up. And he should also know about the combination of the medication.

Request. Really do keep us informed on how you are going and what is happening, so if we see things in your reporting that we do not recognize, we can give you a warning.

We = Jim and me, and also the other DMF-fumaderm users.

Did some research and after long searching I found an article that says that there may be an interaction between cyclosporine and DMF.
The article is from biogen, but it doesn't say what kind of interaction could be detected. It only says: ask your doctor.
Now we all know that bio Jen is an American company and that they have to deal with high standards and risks of jurisdiction.

Yes Biogen will protect themselves as will any Pharma and pass the buck.

Hi Everyone,

I did write a post yesterday but it appears that my phone decided not to send it!

Caroline, the ciclosporin that I take comes in capsules so I can't break them up, they come in 100mg, 50mg and 25mg, do you think that i should drop my dose of ciclo as i increase my fumaderm? I am due to drop from 100mg to 50mg tomorrow, and up my fumaderrm to two tablets on thursday. do you think I should drop my ciclo to 25mg next week when I go up to 3 x fumaderm tablets?

side effects - I'm still only getting warm flushes (which came in handy on Saturday at the rugby!) not suffered any pains as yet, but still only on one tablet at the minute so i would imagine that they will start as the dose increases. I have noticed that I have been a itching a lot more again over the weekend, I am taking this as a sign that the ciclo is starting to leave my system Big Grin

I have been getting headaches, but i'm not sure whether this is a result of coming off my ciclo (as i got them a lot when starting on ciclo) or due to dehydration (didn't manage to drink as much as normal over the weekend - so making sure i drink plenty today) or if it is just me coming down with something as my little man was complaining of a sore throat this morning (i think he wanted a day off school to play with all his new Dr Who stuff!)

Are there any painkillers that you can't take whilst on fumaderm? I have been surviving without painkillers the whole time I have been on ciclo as the only ones that work for me are ibruprofen and those are a big no-no on ciclo!

Hi MaDbEaR,

Yes, I think that is a nice approach, of lowering to 25, when going up to 3 fumaderm.
It is quite possible that due to the lowering of the cyclosporine you will get some psoriasis back, almost inevitable, as the fumaderm will not work that fast.
But in the end it will be easier to detect the moment the Fumaderm will start working for you.
And I think it is a good approach not to use them for long together, just avoiding interactions if there may be.

As far as I know a painkiller as ibuprofen is not one of the best ones. Paracetamol and aspirin are less bad.
There is however no interaction found between e.g. Tecfidera and ibuprofen, and Tecfidera is just a version of DMF which is way more expensive than fumaderm.

Read about your "team", you, your son and your dog. Good to have such important people in your life Smile

I was actually in a discussion of aspirin vs ibuprofen recently. I found this info and looked it up again to post here:

The main difference between aspirin and ibuprofen is their side effects. For this reason many have a preference between the two when considering ibuprofen vs aspirin as everyone's body is going to react differently to medications. There are also certain situations where aspirin is preferred over ibuprofen and other situations where ibuprofen is preferred over aspirin.

One of the benefits of ibuprofen over aspirin is the reported absence of many of the gastrointestinal effects associated with aspirin at lower doses. While ibuprofen may still exhibit irritation of the stomach lining and other gastrointestinal organs at lower doses it is often reported to be significantly less harsh than aspirin. For this reason those with sensitive stomachs or a past history of ulcers or other stomach problems are often recommended to take ibuprofen over aspirin. Effects of stomach discomfort are minimized even more if either medication is taken on a full stomach as opposed to an empty stomach. Ibuprofen is also recommended for use with those who are hemophiliacs. This is due to the fact that ibuprofen thins blood to a lesser extent than aspirin. Aspirin is not as potent as an anti-inflammatory agent as ibuprofen is and is generally just useful as an analgesic whereas in higher doses ibuprofen can act as both an analgesic and an anti-inflammatory agent. Because of this ibuprofen is often recommended for muscle injuries over aspirin.

One advantage that aspirin poses over ibuprofen is its blood thinning properties. For this reason it is prescribed often at low doses to those at risk for heart attacks or with high blood pressure. Though ibuprofen is also known to thin blood it does not do so to as great of a degree as aspirin. Due to its anticoagulant properties it is also useful for preventing strokes. Aspirin is also safe to take for those who are on antibiotics while ibuprofen can interact and interfere with the action of the antibiotic drugs.

Just some info. Personally for pain I find ibuprofen works better for me.

Personally I take cocodamol but I don't think fumaderm is affected by any of them
