Morning Everyone!!
It's a wonderful morning sitting at my computer waiting for the sun to come up and thinking about stuff! So i was thinking about making a doctors appointment and maybe trying to get on one of those new meds......I was on Methotrexate about 6 years ago and it cleared me right up but I was the most tired I have ever been in my life and it was hard working feeling like there was a bag of rocks tied to me 24 hours a day. And where I live is in the middle of nowhere and getting anything done is a severe pain in the a$$!!! So what I'm asking is.....will it be worth it??? I'm ok most days about my skin as it's ugly but bearable....I would post pics but it doesn't seem that easy....anyway any feedback would be appreciated.

I'm glad you have a wonderful morning there in Canada, here in the uk it's lunch time after 1pm and our weather is brightening up nicely ..... I may start putting the Christmas decorations up outside.

In answer to your question I would certainly seek out a dermatologist to put you on something , these days there is no need to suffer, there is acetretin, or even one of the biologicals to try
Look forward to hearing what you decide

I would say if you're happy with the way the psoriasis looks and you don't have psoriatic arthritis I would hold off on trying one of the new treatments (I take it you mean the Bio treatments) they do work very well, but like any treatment there are some side effects.

If I only had psoriasis I would have stayed on the topical treatments Dovobet, Dovonex, Etc but as I got so bad with psoriatic arthritis I had to go onto them. Having said that now I have tried them and ended up with almost completely clear skin, if the psoriasis was bad and getting me down I would go for it.

I'm not sure of your health care system, but the bio's can be be very expensive if you don't have 100% subsidy.

I'm also not sure if you can get Fumaderm (DMF) in your pat of the world, but that may be worth looking into.

Hi there  Wave. I would say its all depending on your quality of life right now. Do you think treatment would improve it, and if so its worth talking to your dermatologist about and finding out about new treatments. I live in the UK, so the costs are covered in our NHS but if this doesn't apply to you, ask yourself would the cost make you happier and weigh it up that way.

I've tried methotrexate, and like you found the results were great, but I too was constantly exhausted and dreaded having to take them.  I'm now prescribed Fumaderm (DMF) and I'm keeping a journal of it on here which you can follow 'My Fumaderm Journey' in Prescribed Treatments. The long term benefits are very encouraging hence why I'm pursuing with the side effects.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!

Nice to meet you by the way!

Dawn

I think it's definitely a personal decision. I've never reached 100% "clear" but I'm close. When my psoriasis was causing me to be self conscious and was itching like crazy, I was prescribed Acitretin which helped. But as long as I can maintain where I am or close to it, I'll forgo any meds. I think it comes down to how you feel about it. If it's itching and constantly bothering you then I'd seek treatment or if it's making you self conscious. If however you are ok with where you are right now, you can try just topicals or moisturizers to help.
