So this is my first thread. I started it in pingu's "Starting MTX" and now I'm moving it here:

Hi guys,

First of all, a BIG thanks to pingu for this user guide, I just finished reading it [Image: smile.gif]

I started mtx last Thursday, 15 mg/week (5 mg/2 pills every 8 hours). On Friday I felt like a zombie, I had a terrible headache, and I threw up several times. Now, everything is good, and I look forward for the next Thursday. Tomorrow I will have my first set of blood tests
I am covered with P about 3-4%, I hope to see big improvements soon.
I will keep you updated.

Good idea to start your own thread.

I wish you well with your journey on Methotrexate. I'm not a fan myself but it can have good results for some.

*I'll move this to Prescribed Treatments For Psoriasis as it's better suited. It was Jim's fault for pointing you here so I will give him extra cellar duties.

I'm glad you started this thread Michele as I said before it will prove a useful record for you to gauge the effectiveness of the methotrexate and the time it takes to work.

This will also help other members when they are looking for answers if they start on methotrexate

I will follow your journey with great interest Thumb

Oops I had better get back to the cellar as I somehow got extra duties Confused

Hey Michele

Cool start.

I put some detail in my thread but will repeat it here. Surprised they put you on 15mg straight off but that is only based on my experience not any professional knowledge. Might be the worse effect starting on a high dose. I was lucky and had zero side effects, at least that were measurable. Not sure what I would have done if I had bad side effects as it really is working on my psoriasis.

Take your MTX with a snack, that makes you luck in that you get 3 snacks. However again it s only what I have been advised.

I hope it works out for you and will follow this with interest.

Thanks for the advice. More snacks for me Smile

I dont't know if it is placebo, paranoia, or mtx, but after just a few days after my first dose I see some improvements. The P spots on my hands are rather pink now and much thinner

I think it is likely to be the methotrexate it us a very strong drug . And it's possible it's getting to work already.... Let's hope that's the case ...... And of course coming here and talking about it has a great placebo effect  Smile

It might be because you jumped straight in at 15mg you are seeing results, even if it is placebo or psychological its cool.

Mine took a while to start but I was an like 5 then 10mg but by week 4 it was awesome. I would have to look back.

The scale changed from large scales to just fine flakes and the pink went uniform.

Then the scaling largely disappeared and eventually the pinkness subsided. Sill a few small patches on my bum but I can live with that.

I had a few weeks between consultants when I ran out and it came back quite quickly but as I have a chest infection at the moment not had any for 3 weeks and still no sign of any return. Maybe a tiny change to my but patches but nobody is looking!

Its great to start seeing an improvement and if you do get side effects it is a case of how bad they are and whether you can live with them, but yeah I am delighted that I can have a snack Big Grin NOM NOM NOM

I told my girlfriend the consultant recommended pizza and carrot cake. She didn't believe me but we could start a thread here you can refer to that we can call best snack foods to take MTX with!

Hi guys,

This is my 3rd week on mtx. My hands looks prety good, but a large spot on my left foot is about 10% larger. I also got something very itchy on my back, it looks like shingles. I will definitely see a dermatologist this week. Last week i didn't feel so good, so I was in sick leave. I felt tired, dizzy, I had nausea, etc.

I'll keep you updated

have a nice day!

Hi Michelle

That's a shame about the rash on your back ....I hope it's not shingles, good idea getting it checked out

The fact that methotrexate is clearing parts of your body shows it's working, some parts of the body do take longer to clear.

Yes the side effects can be unpleasant but hopefully they will get less with time. But do tell your dermatologist who may move you onto something else like acetretin or another oral medication
Good luck
Thanks for updating it is very helpful  Thumb
