It is rough, but my belly doesn't hurt as bad, so that's pretty good incentive as well Rolleyes Big Grin

That's great news Celia. I thought it was time for an update. I saw the dermatologist last Monday and she has now discharged me after seeing the progress I've made. In fact she gave me a six month open appointment if I feel the need to consult with her again. But she did say "I probably won't be seeing you again," to which I replied "Probably not." She did seem interested in my approach and asked for a copy of my food diary which also had a list of references to research papers which she expressed interest in looking at. Probably filed it straight in the bin after I left her office, but you never know.

Good progress over the last 2 weeks since I've been drinking the raw unpasteurized kefir from the farm. Also, have been continuing the strict greens and meat diet. In addition I've done a couple of 5 day water fasts in the past month as well as taking anti-fungals (raw garlic, lemon juice, coconut oil, caprylic acid and undecylenic acid) when I remember.

Had a sad weekend as we had to take our oldest dog to the vet to be put to sleep. She'd been going downhill for a long while now and the time had come to do put an end to her pain. As a result I ate a whole tub of ice cream Saturday afternoon and fully expected a bad flare-up come Monday morning. Really surprised when it didn't happen and now we're on Wednesday evening and my hands are feeling and looking better than they have done since starting with this thing. I'd go as far to say they're feeling pretty normal and the strength of the skin is nearly normal. I'm having to wear gloves at work much less now and am forgetting to put them on most of the time, which says it all to me. Driving used to cause discomfort with the constant friction of the steering wheel and gear changing, but this week I've noticed none of that.

All in all, my hands and feet are pretty clear and (speaks quietly) more or less back to normal. Not a bad result having first had a small coin sized rash on my right hand 12 months ago and the relentless progress of the disease over time. So in summary, this has lasted 12 months (about) and the steroids etc. had 8 months to cure it and failed whilst the diet route has had 4 months and seems to have done the trick so far.

Now it's time to really concentrate my mind on sticking to the plan until Christmas (3 months and counting!) to hammer home the advantage. Then it will be introducing foods back into my diet slowly and in moderation and closely monitoring the effects.

Really sorry if I'm coming across as smug but I'm chuffed to bits with my results to date. It's taken a lot of hard work and perseverance but it's paying off now big time.

Little things like being able to stab at a light switch in passing without pain and split fingers and blood all over it. Being able to turn on a tap that's been welded tight by one of the boys without having to resort to help. Pulling the starter cord on the lawnmower without having my wife do it. In short returning to normality.

Alan that's a great update and I don't think you come across as smug, ( if it was me I would be smug) you have had a good result and I hope you can sustain it
I like the idea of gradually reintroducing food back to see if it affects your skin

I'm glad life has become so much easier for you, it makes a great read Thumb
Thank you for updating

Cheers Jim. Did you see the story in a newspaper today about Crohn's disease and a link to a candida fungal overgrowth? My pet theory hits the mainstream media!

Edit by Fred. Name of newspaper removed.

Good to see you on the improve, Alan, and glad that you are leaving the dermatologist on good terms. Odd parting words for an unpredictable disease though, especially as it is not yet gone. Hope you clear soon.

Cheers,

Bill

I read that this morning as well, and it's been my theory for a while now - that my psoriasis and my daughter's ulcerative colitis are somehow related to fungus. We're both also taking garlic and turmeric. And probiotics.
Our next adventure is to try lacto-fermentation - old fashioned pickling - like sauerkraut, pickled beans.

to me this is wonderful progress, after about a month and a half of no yeast, cutting back on carbs and loading up on green vegetables.   Big Grin  Big Grin  Big Grin

Sorry Alan, didn't mean to hijack your post!   Smile

Hi Celia. All comments very welcome! Glad you're making good progress as well. Talking about lacto-fermentation, I reckon that is a good thing to try. Anything that adds to the good bacteria must be a good thing in my book. I stopped off at the farm shop today inbetween calls and got some raw unpasteurized milk, kefir and bone broth. Had a great conversation with the farmer who's very enthusiastic about good health starting from a healthy gut. He's always interesting to talk with and I always come away feeling very positive. The more unpasteurized foods we can get the better. I think most chronic diseases come from poor quality, mass produced, chemical laden food. If you try burning the wrong fuel in your car you're going to damage the engine eventually.
