Hi All,

Apologies if this has already been discussed(i tried searching previous posts) or if i have posted this topic in the wrong place.

My background: I have suffered from pretty sever psoriasis for 6 years. I tried every sort of treatment to little or no avail, before i was turned onto Fumaderm 16 months ago. From early in the initial course, it was completely cleared. My dermatologist continued to increase my dose until i reached 6x 120mg a day. After this he slowly reduced it.

4 weeks ago i was reduced to 2x 120mg Fumaderm a day, and almost immediately i saw psoriasis return. I have been moved back to 3x 120mg a day, however it has only gotten worse.

I am just wondering if anybody has had any similar issues using Fumaderm?? I am only hoping this is temporary, maybe my daily dose was reduced too low, and now that I am back to 3x a day it will slowly go away!

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to give! Smile

Hi Mac and  Welcome to the club, I'm also on Fumaderm and have had psoriasis return after dropping the dose too low. I'm sure if it was working, it will start again

I can stay clear on 4 a day but have increased to 5 to control my psoriatic arthritis

In my opinion it's a great drug and has kept me clear for 5 years

Enjoy your time here and ask as many questions as you like,  we are all friendly here and happy to discuss treatments
Good luck Jim

Honestly is such a relief to hear someone else has seen this happen and its cleared up Smile

I had myself convinced Fumaderm had lost its touch and psoriasis was back  Tongue

I'll just try to be patient until it clears up again Smile

Thank you!

You're welcome I'm a great believer in fumaderm, so yes be patient

I hope you are being monitored and  your bloods are normal,
I'm sure it will work again for you, I think you have just gone too low and it will kick in again  Thumb
Did you have many side effects when you started the Fumaderm ?

I get my bloods done once a month and have never had any problem!

It was clear while i was on 3 a day previously, but my dermatologist thought we should try lowering the dose to 2 a day, which
is when I noticed its return.
At first he was slow to put me back on 3 a day, but 4 weeks later, It's 90% as bad as it was pre-fumaderm, so I'm back to 3 a day since last Monday  Confused

As far as side effects, i got the occasional hot flush.. And i really mean occasional, maybe once a fortnight, if even that!!

I was warned before starting, what side effects i may have faced but I could not get over how well I took to it!!

Until this relapse I would have told everyone who was considering it, to try fumaderm, truly changed my life (not to sound overly dramatic)  Big Grin

I'm just hoping now, it won't be too long before it'll clear up again, its tough being in college while my face/arms/everywhere is bright red and flaking constantly  Confused

I hope it clears for you soon. You might get other answers from other users but I can only tell of my experience

The usual reason I believe people give up fumaderm, is either the blood count dropping to low, or side effects are too severe to continue
Good luck

Hi Mac and welcome to the club  Wave
Never used the stuff so I'm afraid I can't comment but there are a lot of people in the Fumaderm gang like Jim that swear by the stuff.
I'm guessing like a few other orals there is a little 'experimentation' done by the Dermys until your particular dosage is arrived at.
Don't worry about asking questions there is generally somebody around that can give you anh honest answer.

Hi Mac,

Welcome to Psoriasisclub. Wave
Nothing wrong with being overly dramatic, almost all DMF users, Fumaderm is just one form of it, are very positive about the workings of DMF.
John is already mentioning the Fumaderm gang, which is basically the DMF gang, as there are others who use the Dutch variant or the Australian variant.
And in Fumaderm it is the DMF that does the work, the rest of the stuff in the pill is useless.

Personally, if I was the derm, I would push you back to 4x a pill a day, in order to take care of your current status and make you clean again, and then go down to your apparent maintenance dose of 3.
You can always suggest that if you speak to your derm.

Enjoy the forum. Hope to see you also in the off topic section.

Caroline

Hi Caroline & JohnB,

Thanks for the reply!

I'm due to see my derm again in 3 weeks, a bit earlier than usual but seeing as I had this flare up he's gonna bring me back early.

Fumaderm was brilliant previously, it was just a bit of a shock how quickly it came back when I reduced tablets  Huh

Thanks for all the replies today, it really is a relief to hear from other people who have dealt with similar setbacks  Smile

Sadly a lot of people experience rebound when treatment is reduced or withdrawn. From what I have read on here, few see protracted periods of treatment free remission.
