Hi there

I'm a 43 year old woman who has suffered on and off all my life. Over the last couple of years my scalp has got so much worse. I've tried every shampoo and lotion there is and nothing helps.

Has anyone found anything that helps that I can recommend to my doctor?

Txs in advance

Then you must demand to see a dermatologist. A GP is never going to be able to treat you properly as they can only prescribe creams, and they are never going to help long term.

Your GP will just keep throwing the creams at you and the longer you put up with that the harder it will be to get yourself sorted. You've had it for far too long now and it's time to see a dermatologist and get it sorted.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Tedbakergirl  Welcome I'm glad you have come and asked, the best thing I can advise is that you ask to be referred to a dermatologist as your doctor is limited as to what he can prescribe ....but ask for clobex shampoo it is a steroid shampoo but he might prescribe it ....but I think a referral to a dermatologist ...but that might take time ...

I'm sure others will have some other ideas ....good luck

Txs everyone. Sounds like I'll need to put my foot down and get a referral!

Fingers crossed it's too long a wait

I may be wrong but I think our Scottish members do better than the English at getting referrals. But yes you must push, things have moved on a lot in the past few years in the treatment of psoriasis and a dermatologist will work with you to find something that is suitable for you.

Hi tedbakergirl! Wave

I agree, you'll spend a fortune trying everything the doc suggests whilst they delay referring you.. what I did was put all the lotions and potions in a big carrier bag and dumped it on my docs desk as a sort of visual demonstration - it got her attention!

On the subject of scalp treatments, the one that works for me is oilatum shampoo. There's also bettamousse which is supposed to be easier to get on the scalp than creams etc.

Likely you've tried them already though..

Yes I've tried both of those and no luck. I think that's the difficult thing is that not one thing works for everyone. I've worked my way down every treatment - best I found was coconut oil but it only gives temporary relief
