Hello Wave  everyone, I am new to this forum and new to psoriasis although it is in my family. My father had it, my sister started when she was 18 and my two daughters have it. I am 67 years old and have been clear of it, how lucky is that? My sister had it all over her body and is now in a wheelchair due to Psoriatic Arthritis.

About 18 months ago I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis although I had no skin problems. I was certainly in denial of the diagnosis. But not now! I have now been diagnosed with Flexural/Inverse Psoriasis and boy does it itch and so sore. It is at present in my armpits and genital areas and now on my eyelids and slowly spreading. I have been prescribed a topical cream for my arms and other areas except for my eyelids. It was suggested I use Vaseline on my eye lids.

My question is anyone any thoughts of deodorants I would be able to use and also ideas of anything for my eyelids apart from vaseline?

Many thanks and thanks for being there

Hello Bumble Bee (Busybee) Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

I'm sorry I can't help with the deodorant, but Coconut Oil may be worth trying for the eyelids.

Hopefully someone else will have more advice and come along later.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Busybee  Welcome  to the club ...I hope you enjoy yourself here you will find a lot of friendly sufferers here, I'm sure someone can give you some ideas about deodorant ...I have always used Dove deodorant and never had a problem ....but I've never suffered in my arm pits..
I would suggest that maybe topicals aren't great for areas with folds in the skin and delicate areas like your genital area ....
The creams will not help the psoriatic arthritis either ...I'm not a medical person but I would enquire about a systemic drug that would help both conditions, and while I'm not a great lover of Methotrexate myself as I couldn't get on with it ...it would tackle both conditions you are suffering with... it's a nasty disease as you know if it's in the family, and the earlier you tackle psoriatic arthritis the better the long term for you will be

I hope you will get other opinions and ideas .....so I wish you good luck

Hello Busybee,

Welcome to psoriasisclub,

I don’t know of deodorants you could use. I can imagine you have to try for the very soft ones.
Coconut oil is an excellent moisturiser as the guys are already telling you.

If you have Psoriatic Athritis you will need something stronger than moisturisers. You will need to go to the systemics or biologicals.
For the systemics there’s the choice of methotrexate (I hate it) and the fumarates, both will, if they work, work for both Psoriasis and Psoriatic arthritis.

The biologicals are more dedicated, faster working and expensive.

Have a good time over here with us.

Hi BB , welcome to the club where all of us on here have the same problems so all answers are from the point of people with the same troubles. I don't know where you are in gods own county but welcome from East Yorkshire.
I used Dove deodorant when I had it really bad and had no real problems but I did however use coconut oil on any areas like under my arms before I used it. If possible I would really push for bios like the one that Fred takes as it will probably be the best solution to what you have got ,I take Stelara which is good for the P but not as good as Fred's bio for PsA.
Have a good look around and ask away any questions.

Thank you for your replies, I should have said that my rheumatologist has tried me on methotrexate and another one (sulph) something I cannot remember. I have failed on both. I have had 3 lots of steroid injections over the last 12 months, they have now run out so to speak and I know I cannot have any more, I have just thought that perhaps this is why the psoriasis has started to show. I have an appointment with him soon. He will probably  try something else!

Hi busybee ...thanks for letting us know you have failed on systemic treatment ..as that's the case I think it would be an idea to ask for a biological drug that that can help both conditions you can read about them here Biological Treatments For Psoriasis probably the best ones are the one that Fred is on Cosentyx or Taltz both work on both psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis
See Novartis will announce new evidence on Cosentyx for psoriatic arthritis

No problem you be who you want to be. We are all gentle to our new members, once you get to 100 + posts then it changes and you would be surprised what some of us get called. I'm known as the sensible one by the way.

BB Don't hesitate to start other threads with you specific questions if you wish, none of us a medically trained people but we sure know what it's like to live with. This in my opinion is better than any dermatologist or evidence based results out there.

More on coconut oil here if you're interested Coconut Oil

*Tip ignore that old Grizzly he just searches for new friends as we refuse to feed him. Wink
