I went to the beach almost 3 weeks ago and woke up with a swollen-ish red eyelid the next day. I have had a little bit of psoriasis on that eye previously, but the next day I developed an extra fold and my eyelid was red.
I put on the 1% cream for a bit of time but it didn't do anything... if anything, it got worse. I used it on and off, then one night I put 1% ointment on and the next day it was like 60% better.

I then continued using it on and off for about 5 or so days and it was stagnant.

Following this I had a big flare-up on my face.

I saw the dermo and she said continue using the 1% ointment until it gets better.

Now my problem is, I keep using it, but the extra fold is still there and theres a red line above my eyelid in the hollow of my eye that won''t go away. Luckily, it's not noticeably red unless I lift my eyebrows.

I am a bit worried.

Any help or ideas or experience?
Will my eye just naturally heal over time? I also am scared to use too much of the ointment for excess steroid use.

Well that is a difficult question. Your eyelid is a difficult place. Indeed be very careful with the steroids. Try it out with the effect of the coconut oil.
Is it possible to keep it very well cleaned ?

Maybe Bill, also from down under, will have an idea?

I think some others may jump in with some advice.

A few other questions:
  • Does any of your ancestors, mum, dad, have Psoriasis?
  • I mean, do you think it has a genetic cause?
  • Were you in a stressful period in 2015 when it started?
  • Did you have some kind of bacterial infection while you got it?
  • Was there something special going on before your flare up?
I'm asking this, because there may be a reason, why you have it flaring up.

First of all, thank you very much for the offer of help, I really appreciate it!!!

1. Apparently my grand mother has it on/in her nails, other than her, I am the only one

2. Probably genetic. I also have Coeliac Disease and keep a strict gluten free diet. Maybe having 1 auto-immune means I am more pre-dispositioned to have another?

3. During 2015, that's hard to say. I don't think so. It first started under my arm when I was in South America. Then when I got back, I noticed it slowly started on my forehead and scalp. It stayed only in those three places for a decent amount of time. Throughout 2016 it began spreading to my ear lobes and sides of my nose. 5 places, it has spread to a place in my eyebrow, my right eye lid and under my left eye. Those 3 new places began after my inflamed eyelid. So I think stress caused those... because I have been very stressed lately. Mostly from my swollen eyelid.

4. Could have been bacterial on my eyelid  + a possible case of chlamidya... :/ That may have influenced it and had a strain on my immune system (cleared now)

I have been reading that you should use the ointment/cream twice a day for 4 weeks maximum. That to me is a very long time. I usually use it for a day or 2 and it clears right up. I thought using it for 2 weeks was a scarily long time.
I have been using it on and off for 3 weeks on my eye lid.

It’s not something I can help with, but will advise caution with the steroids on your face. The steroids will thin your skin with extended use. So be very sparing with them
There’s not much advice I can give as you are under a dermatologist and you say your Psoriasis is mild so they won’t put you on systemic treatments Oral Treatments For Psoriasis
But if it spreads it might be the way to go
Then on the other hand look through our natural treatments there may be something you can do with diet, and as Caroline has said try not to be too anxious or stressed as that is a known trigger

I personally would not use any steroid no matter how mild near my eyes, but that's just my opinion.

I would rather try:

Coconut Oil.

Vaseline.

Dexeryl.

I wouldn't use steroids at all, or calcipotriol for that matter. I have put a topical recipe on pc, but be aware that the pine tar concentration is about five times greater than you would start with (I was using the topical to treat a severe disease). Good luck.

That is a small signal that a genetic connection may be there.

Well there are suggestions, that this might be so, it may even be logical as your immune system may be weaker. BUT.... here at psoriasisclub I don’t know anyone with two auto-immune diseases.

Stress is a strong factor for the ignition of Psoriasis. Maybe you can do some stress reduction actions? Meditation?

Okay, that may be some of an indication. Clamidya is that bacterial? Bacterial infections can also be a trigger and indeed have a strain on your immune system.

Okay, but you have seen the reaction of the others, even if you use it sparely, which is very sensible, still you have to take utmost care.

You now are able to use the PM system as you have 5 posts.

I would say, don’t use the 1% on and off when you remember it, try and use it a couple of times a day without missing a dose for up to whatever time you’ve been told (maybe more than 1 week) to see if it clears, then taper off rather than suddenly stopping.

I’ve been told it’s fine on the face too, but I guess where eyelids are already thin skin you need to be careful. That was advice given to me, but I would always say to follow advice given to you on steroids by your own doc/derm.

Also, might it be the sun triggering the psoriasis? I was given light treatment years back, though I told them it was a bad idea, and where it burned my skin I got psoriasis.
