Hi all,

I hope all is well. After the initial saga of trying to source Skilarence privately, I found that SuperDrug stocks it at roughly half the price of anywhere else, so decided to give it a shot in the first instance.

So far so good, with limited side effects, although last night I did get a hot flush in the middle of the night which woke me up as it was uncomfortable against my pillow. I was wondering if anybody had any tips for either heading these off or managing them once they hit? It didn’t last more than about 20 minutes but It wasn’t a pleasant experience!

Hi glad you got the skilarence  Thumb it's a great drug that I have used under the name fumaderm for around 7 years
The best advice I can give is to stick with the dosing regime  (slow build up) and take with meals never on its own ...and plenty of fluid to wash it down

You will still get the flushes about 6 hours after taking the drug and may even experience abdominal cramps, but if you get over them you should have a clear future

It's just your body adjusting to the drug and after a while they stop and you remain clear hopefully

Always ask here if you are unsure there is a lot of experience here
See also Skilarence
And for dosing it's the same as fumaderm

Yes, I am in agreement with Jim on that except I take the raw chemical and get a flush within a couple of hours. Flush equals efficacy in my experience. Good luck with it.

Yes, the flush is a small drawback..... or not.... we have had a Psoriasis patient over here in the Netherlands who also came over his Meunières disease because of the site effect of DMF regarding flushing.

It may feel a bit uncomfortable in the beginning, but you will get used to it and it is totally harmless.

The most inconvenient thing may be the intestine cramps.

The most dangerous thing, but very undangerous when regularly measured, is the lowering of the Lymphocytes. Therefore:
- slow build up
- intermittent use of the drug, it is better to use it 5 days a week and skip the weekend. (Almost no dermatologist knows this, but it has been suggested to the patients over here in NL for already 30 years by the doctor who was the motor with the introduction of DMF).

Thanks for the advice guys, very useful! I’ve been taking it with meals and a bit of yoghurt. Not had the cramps yet thankfully.

Just so I know, you all still get the flushes?

Yup. When I used it I had the flushes. Sometimes small. E.g. only my head. Sometimes my whole body.
But I followed a quite different treatment. See my Journal. And now I don’t use anything anymore.

I rarely get a flush these days or if I do it is slight and passes quickly ...almost unnoticeable to me
