Hi everyone, like my username says, I'm just a farmboy from CanadaSmile My question to the forum is this: How genetically heritable is psoriasis? My mom has it on her elbows, neck, back and knees, and she is in a quite a bit of discomfort all the time.

Hello Farmboy and Welcome

It's said that you can pass psoriasis on through your genes and some do have family members who also have psoriasis, I think Hanna's father has it.

However I'm the only one in my family that has psoriasis. My mother was from a family of 14, my father from a family of 6, they had 3 sons, my 2 brothers had 2 boys each, and 3 of them have gone on to have 2 children each. And none of those people have ever had psoriasis apart from me.

So a difficult one to answer, maybe it is passed down and my family have been lucky.

Yup Fred is right, my dad has psoriasis and it is starting to show strong roots in my family with a half sister and her daughter having it along with another sister and a niece, none seem to have the amount I do. (I have a big family 6 sisters 2 of which are half, and 1 brother)

From what I've researched if 1 perant has psoriasis then there is a 1 in 10 chance of child having it.
If both perants have psoriasis then it's 50/50

Welcome by the way Smile

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the welcomeSmile
I'm an only child so I may get lucky. I did your scoring chart Fred on roughly what my mom thinks she has (she is computer illiterate) and came up with 24.
On the plus side, we recently discovered a treatment that may be her answer to get off of prescription creams and meds. My daughter had severe acne on her face and forehead, and we used a product that has recently become available in Canada, and I think is now available all over the globe. It worked for her acne, so we thought, it's not a drug, it's available to anyone, let's give it a go on psoriasis, (my friend who introduced us to the product suggested it, she said lots of people have been using it on psoriasis successfully) and it seems like it's working well. We're keeping our fingers crossedSmile
