Hi all, I was wondering if anyone can help me with a few questions regarding my first injection of Taltz. I took my first injection last night (administered by my friend who is a nurse) I my stomach. It is the pen and we did let it sit out to get to room temperature. I can handle the pain of the injection no problem. But right after it almost felt like I had pulled a muscle in my upper thigh area and I was walking with a limp. After waking up today, my lower back and hip are so tight that it hurts to barely move my right leg. That is the side of my abdomen where it was injected. Has anyone else experienced this? Did I maybe tense up? I also took a very long car ride yesterday to evacuate from Hurricane Delta so my entire body was tense and aching. But I was just so desperate to start my injections because my entire scalp is covered with plaques and is bleeding. Just wondering if this is normal?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Courtney,

Welcome to psoriasisclub.
I do not have a recollection of anyone here on the forum who has an equal reaction to you on the injection of any biological. But maybe someone else remembers his or hers first time injection.

Although people can react to the injections, most of the known and reported side effects are more in the area of feeling a little sniffy, or sometimes the injection area can become red and active which mostly will vanish in a few days.

Your description more looks like something else has happened which just happened at the same time of the injection. But hey, I am no doctor. Big Grin So my advice would be to have a call to your doctor and explain the situation to him.

Hope others will kick in with additional ideas.

Cheers,
Caroline

Hi Courtney and welcome to the forum, I'm sorry I'm not on that medication but we do have a few Taltz  users here who I'm sure will pop in and give their opinion. But I haven't heard of that as a side effect although I'm sure some have had some injecting pain

I hope some of our members will come and tell you of their experience  Thumb

I hope you're well away from the hurricane now and safe.

It is a good drug and I hope it works quickly on your scalp and gives you some relief

I've not had Taltz but been on Bio's for over 10 years and what you describe has never happened to me.

Is it your first time using a bio ? I ask because you could be right and you tensed up.

Most find the prefilled syringes less painful than the pen type, but I don't recall anyone having the problems you describe from  either.

It does say in this post Taltz (ixekizumab) "Muscle aches" so it may be worth you contacting your specialist even if just to keep them in the loop.

My thinking (going by what you have said) is that it's the stress and worry, but like the others already said we are not doctors.

If it was me I would ride it out for 48 hrs and see how it goes, but we are all different and if it is bothering you then you should speak to your specialist.

Please do report back as your input could help others and it's not something I recall being mentioned before.

Welcome to Psoriasis Club by the way.  Wave

Fred.

Hi - I’ve used taltz among other injections and I’ve not had a problem like that. It makes me wonder if it somehow hit a nerve? Or perhaps it’s an allergic reaction but then I would think your skin would be swollen and hot around the site.
Here in the uk we are advised to ring up the people who distribute the drug, so if you have anyone to contact maybe it would be good to get advice from them.

Hi Courtney

Welcome to the psoriasis club!

Welcome

I am not on Taltz but never had a reaction like the one you are describing on the bios I have tried.

As Caroline and Fred mentioned, discussing with your doctor if the aches persist may be a good thing to do

Hope you are in a safe place while the hurricane passes

Welcome Courtney!

I was on Taltz and did not have the reaction like you described. I did however have some issues right after the injection with pain and redness at (and around) the injection site. I also used the pen.

I also think it's worth mentioning it to your doctor and see what they say about it. And you might ask about the syringe as I was told that Taltz in particular is less painful if you use the syringe vs the pen which might help with you not tensing up during the injection.
