Hello Everyone,

I've had psoriasis in various degrees over the past 30+ years, and mostly been able to keep it under somewhat control with steroid cream, UVB therapy or puva baths, up to the past 10 months were its kinda getting out of control.
I joined this group looking to see what people have had success with and just talk to people going through the same struggles.

Treena ?

Hello Treena and a warm welcome to our club  Wave.
There are a wide ranging group of people here who use or have used almost every medication known to man with various degrees of success. While non of us are medically trained you will get honest answers to any questions you may have. We dont bite and Fred will not put up with any scammers or trolls so you are in a safe place to discuss the dreaded psoriasis.

There is also a very healthy off topic section with a coffee shop and a bar. There is also a monthly newsletter should you wish to subscribe.

Make yourself at home and ask what you will, someone somewhere in the world will have an answer or opinion.

Hi Treena and welcome to the club, I was the same as you having tried all the creams and potions available but never managed to keep it under much control for very long. The steroids thinned my skin and  the hospital said I couldn't have more uv treatment..... at this point I had suffered with it for around 50 years then I was offered tablets to control it they were methotrexate and after a short while I was free of psoriasis, unfortunately for me it was a drug that made me feel constantly nauseous and it got to the point where I would rather have psoriasis than the constant sick feeling. I was them offered a drug I don't think is available to you called Fumaderm (now moved on to another version of the same drug called Skilarence) and have been kept clear of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis for around 9 years now.
But there are lots of options open to you ask your dermatologist about some oral treatments that are available to you see Oral Treatments For Psoriasis

There are options on there that may be the next step for you or you might like to ask about the biological drugs you could get see here Biological Treatments For Psoriasis but the main thing to do now you've found us is to keep returning to read what others do and instead of feeling alone, know you are chatting with people that know what you're going through

Welcome Treena. Psoriasis Club would be a fantastic site if it only had photographs, excepting the pics of Andy's bum. A great place to find out about treatment experiences.

Cheers

Hello Treena  Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

I see Jim has pointed you to the prescribed threads that have the information on what is available in his post, but you have to remember there is no suit fits al. It's all about trying different things with your dermatologist, most start with the oral treatments before bio's but you will have to discuss that again with your dermatologist.

You will find a very friendly bunch of people here from all around the world so dive on in. I too recommend the [Group Specific] like John said, it's a good way of getting to know some of our members.

Regards.

Fred.

Welcome!

There is a ton of info on this site and members who are willing to share and answer questions. A variety of treatments are discussed and I think what I have found is that this isn't a disease where one treatment works for everyone as some have success with some treatments and others just don't.

I have found the information here very useful when discussing treatments with my doctor. It helped me to be able to question some things and know which direction I wanted to head.

It's a friendly group here Smile

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I look forward to reading about everyones experiences and figuring out where I need to go with my psoriasis.
To be honest I haven't been to a dermatologist in 8 years.  She told me because I don't have psoriasis on 30% of my body she didn't think I needed any treatment (other than the creams, that never worked on the larger spots so stopped using) but now for whatever reason I'm getting spots all over.
I like hearing about peoples experiences with different treatments before I go back to a dermatologist first.  I think my worry too in the past are the longterm effects some of these drugs have.

Thanks again for the welcome  Smile

I would suggest reading the oral options here first as I think that is where they would start. Oral Treatments For Psoriasis *I'm pretty sure you will not be offered Fumaderm or Skilarence in Canada.

From there you could use the Search and put in the different treatments for example "Acitretin" and you will see a range of threads to choose that interest you.

Failing that you can also start as many threads as you like in Prescribed Treatments For Psoriasis asking about the different treatments if you have any questions.

But I would push to see a dermatologist again Treena as 8 years is a long time and a lot has changed since then.
