As an aside, as I use the coconut oil on my skin and scalp, the scent of it takes me directly to the kitchen of my young childhood and the first time my father brought macaroons from the local bakery.  I can see his hands opening the bakery box and handing me the cookie and can remember his explaining that it's made with coconuts. The scent must have made an impression on me because here is this lovely memory and a feeling of closeness to him, unbidden.  He most often brought home maple bars to share, but one or two times, it was macaroons.

While growing up, my children liked the Almond Joy candy bars, which also are made with coconut.  My son is now grown and follows a vegan diet, but I include almond/coconut candies when I send my daughter care packages at university.

And now this coconut, reminiscent of sharing a sweet dessert and the affection that entails, is helping the itching and softening the rashes.

Have I mentioned how thankful I am for this forum?  Thank you!  Heart

Nice memories Smile

Those are very good memories Forest Walker. Amazing stuff this coconut oil, as it apparently even works on your mind. Wink

I agree with you on this forum. It is one of the best I myself ever encountered. It is very clear and honest with real experiences, an no vague claims of pharmaceutical companies and not the stress that you may encounter on other forums.
And besides the psoriasis information, there is a lot of other stuff going around.

The bees ignored the coconut oil I placed outside.  But I didn't have a control item, such as a different food, to see if they were attracted to one and not the other.

For those who are using coconut oil on the skin frequently, is your cholesterol okay?  Does our skin absorb the oil in a way that causes the fats to enter the blood stream, as it does when eating it?  I'm using the coconut oil on my skin daily and scalp about three times a week.  My scalp doesn't itch as badly, and I'm shedding fewer scalp flakes on my clothing.

I've been using it daily for years and had no problems with cholesterol, my last test was perfect as it usually is. I have never eaten coconut oil but do also use it as a lip balm as well as a moisturiser, so I doubt it would make your cholesterol go up.

Thank you.  Before I got into skating as an adult, my cholesterol was not bad enough to require medication, but it wasn't really good, either.  Then the skating and the skating and the skating, and my bad cholesterol (LDL?) went down while my good cholesterol (HDL?) went up--happy praise from doctors.

It's good to read that you both have healthy cholesterol levels while using the Coconut oil.  That stuff really feels good to apply, too.  So glad I found this forum.

Treatment: Coconut Oil and a pumice stone
#28

I use a pumice stone once a day on my affected areas and apply coconut oil at least three times a day.  Right now it is enough of a treatment that I do not itch, flake very little and the only system is red skin.  Not ideal but Im 65 so it does not matter as much......
if and when this treatment is not enough, then I will move on to something more powerful.

Welcome Bill. Coconut oil helps me quite a lot as well. Haven't tried using a pumice stone though.
