Alan, it is great that you have something working for you, but to claim that conventional medicine has failed you is very selective. Have you tried every conventional treatment? My understanding is that you have not gone past topical therapies which are not generally effective in severe cases like yours and mine. Like you, I was not happy with the way the system works, but unlike you I chose a conventional therapy, albeit taken unconventionally. My success with this therapy and the many treatment histories that I have read here have substantially increased my respect for the specialists providing care, often with considerable constraints from both their patients and the systems they work within. All I see you doing with your approach is denying yourself potentially effective conventional treatments and risking harm upon yourself from unconventional treatments.

Good luck,

Bill

Hi Bill. I'm also glad you're happy with your treatment. My way is working for me and the conventional treatment wasn't. I can't really add much other than that. We've got different views on the best way forward and that's fine. I accept entirely that I stopped at the topical steroid stage, because that's what was offered to me. When it was clear that wasn't working I stumbled upon my current approach which is working. When I saw the specialist 2 months later she was happy with my progress and that I carry on doing what I was doing. No other treatment was suggested at this consultation. If she had concerns about my approach she did not voice any. All I can do is report my own experience Jim.

That is good, Alan. Your consultant must have been happy with your progress. I would feel very chuffed if I did not have to take DMF.

Long may your success continue!

Bill

Time for an update. I thought some before and after photos would be helpful.

As you can see there's been a significant improvement over the last four months.

I'm almost taking this for granted now and it is becoming more difficult to stick to a restrictive diet. To be honest I've cheated up a few times recently and have had minor outbreaks but they haven't amounted to much. I suppose it shows that just because my skin looks and feels almost normal my gut is still recovering and not completely healed.

The improvement in my nails is great to see looking back at the old pictures. I'm hoping by Christmas to have hands that look pretty much normal again. Luckily, my toenails were not affected so my feet look normal already now that the skin has healed.

Great stuff Alan and thank you for updating, it certainly looks a great improvement since April and the photos are very helpful

The strict regime is certainly working well for you despite the odd "cheat" meal

Long may it continue and do keep the updates coming as they will helpful to others

Yo Bro Smile

I was in such a good mood Jim that I decided to pick up the new car last Saturday.

With a bit of luck I shan't be leaving bits of skin all over the dashboard, unlike with the last couple of cars....

Hope you're well dude!

Im well thanks  Thumb
That's a great feeling when the colour of the trim and seats isn't a consideration when buying a car , ( no dark colours) and didn't those flakes get everywhere and looked awful. I used to be forever vacuuming the car. Long may you stay clear Thumb

That is great improvement, Alan. When you start reintroducing food groups you will find out whether the diet is responsible or whether the resolution was spontaneous. At least you are getting other benefits from your diet, and killing two birds with one stone is a good plan.

Cheers,

Bill

It's very interesting how you've done, great news. Can I ask, given that you feel psoriasis is a gut problem, whether you have any issues with your gut? I would think it would follow that all psoriasis suffers have gut issues.. Or am I getting the wrong end of the stick?

Hi Bill. Cheers. Yes it's going to be interesting after Christmas finding out what specific foods aggravates things. Although I know gluten and simple carbs definitely mess things up, it will be good to find out how much I'm able to tolerate again before problems arise. The worst that can happen is sticking to this regime for longer than I'd hoped. I know that my improvement hasn't been spontaneous only in as much as there are definite trigger foods that I know will cause a flareup. As I mentioned, I've cheated a few times recently and suffered the consequences - thankfully minor (which leads me to hope that I'm actually healing inside.) The fringe benefits are very welcome as well!

When I can eat normally again without having problems days or weeks down the line I'll know I've got this thing licked. However, I'm not holding my breath on this! I'm sure that the recovery time will be longer than I first anticipated. But, and it's a big but (no pun intended, as mine is shrinking weekly), I have good management of the condition now, so if recovery takes longer then so be it.

I will keep a food & symptom diary when re-introducing foods as I found that a very helpful way of identifying the culprits in the first place. It's really easy to forget what you've eaten and I can't stress how important it is to keep a record that you can look back at to try and identify patterns.
