Hi Everyone Thumb
My name is Anthony and this is my first time posting on here, its nice to meet you all.
I have had psoriasis for about 6 years but its been particularly bad this past few months and I thought I would start being active on forums in order to find people who have similar issues as me
I saw a doctor and he reccomended I go on methotrexate but at this time I knew little about it. I did some research on its effects and have decided not to try it until I have tried more natural solutions to see if that will make a difference.
I also thought it would be good to document it so I have started a blog where I am going to post pictures of my progress and can chat to anyone who is struggling from psoriasis too. I dont know anyone personally who has it so I often struggle with having anyone to talk to
I would be very grateful of anyone who wants to follow my blog and if it makes a difference hopefully it can inspire others to try what I am going to try

Thanks all!!

Hello Anthony Welcome to Psoriasis Club

If you do want more info about Methotrexate the following thread may help: Methotrexate

There are also a few members using Methotrexate and a search will find them, but they don't always report back with updates Sad though Krissie posted a new thread the other day about her use of MTX you can find that here: Methotrexate... almost 1 year on

Should you want to go the natural way this section may help: Natural Treatments For Psoriasis

Though you have started your own blog, you are more than welcome to start your own thread here to share your experience with others. The more people we have sharing the better it is for everyone Thumb

Regards.

Fred.

Hello Anthony,

Welcome to the club.

Like to read from your progress, but like Fred I would prefer to see your blog issues also here on the forum as this is a point where I very regularly come back. I do not follow anyone else's blog.
Twitter might also be a nice option.

Sensible to keep away from MTX for now, you can always try it much later on. There is enough on other possibilities to try out first.
Read along, very much already has been said on this forum.

Wave

Hey Anthony,

Welcome to the Club!! Nice to see another new name on the boards. As Fred so kindly mentioned I am presently taking Methotrexate for Psoriatic Arthritis. For many years I fought the recommendation from my Dermatologist and GP to take this drug for my skin and only when I had a serious flare (couldn't use my hands or wrists due to inflammation and pain) of PsA and after trying EVERY other conceivable anti-inflammatory and pain killer combination I decided that it was time to bend a little.

I have to admit that the turn around has been impressive, for my joints at least.... I had full function in my hands and wrists again within 2 weeks of starting MtX, but I have had no clearance of my Pso (actually my skin has gotten worse) since starting it.

I'm a Microbiologist with a fair bit of Immunology training behind me and I have used this to read my way through hundreds of research papers on Mtx and Psoriasis/Psoriatic arthritis before starting the drug, I wanted to fully educate myself on what I was getting into and docs are not great at giving info... (This is why I am still on minimum dosage after almost a year I don't see the need to up the drug level without it being a necessity) but I know how hard it is to read research articles if you're not scientifically minded.

My advice, try everything else out there for your psoriasis before starting MTX or ANY OTHER biological drug... Honestly, I did and wouldn't be on it if it weren't for my PsA. Just don't expect a cure all.... I used to believe that there would be a cure by the time I was an adult but still no such luck.

Krissie

@krissie Source: NO LINKS ALLOWED.
By now you are an adult, aren't you?
Wink

Unlike Krissie I am not a microbiologist, but have done a study in engineering and informatics. Used to reading scientific material, and used to look at the world by means of an open mind.
I agree with Krissie to stay away from MtX, but there are other possibilities that have a great effect without the disadvantages of MTX.
Luckily I found one of these possibilities after having used MTX for a short time.

Just gotta say welcome and hope you are doing well.

We are all in this together. As miserable as this disease is, today there are so many new treatments than ever before.

I hope you find remission soon. Wave
