Hello all

I have never had any sort of skin problem. However over the past few months I have had 'something' develop on my scalp. It started as clustered clumps of 'dandruff' on my scalp, but nothing to bad. I went to see GP who give me some coconut coal stuff, she said it was caused by stress. Then a few months later, I developed quite bad dry skin behind my ears, of which became infected and started weeping. Then my head became significantly worse, it become very very sore and cracked. It feels like it is burning and the skin is very tight. I can easily simply scratch my head and my nails will be full of 'clumps' of white / yellow stuff. Sometimes my scalp also weeps to the point that it soaks my hair at the back. I have looked at it when it has been oozing and it seems to be a greenish liquid seeping. Its becoming increasingly sore and I am still not sure what it is. My dr gave me some steriod cream for behind my ears, and antibiotics but nothing else for my hair. The coal stuff I got earlier this year does not work and actually hurts very much because I am putting it on sore cracked skin. Does this sound like psoriasis?

Thanks all

Hello and Welcome to Psoriasis Club

It does sound like psoriasis though it is difficult to diagnose, I'm not so sure of the description "greenish liquid" but the other things you describe say it could be.

Check out this thread for the different types of psoriasis: Types Of Psoriasis Explained have a read through and there are links to images that may help.

But in the end a diagnoses should only be given by a professional as some psoriasis treatments can aggravate other skin problems.

Hope that has helped a bit, and if it is psoriasis you will find lots of support here.

Please keep us informed as it could help others.

Regards.

Fred.

EDIT: have you noticed any change in your finger nails?

I do have a couple of photos but I can't upload on here, its very scaly, i feel like I just have a complete layer of scaly clumps on my scalp!

I will have a look at the thread you have posted - thank you.

Nope, no change in fingernails, although I have always had weak nails that break easily.

You need to have made 5 posts to post an image.

Sometimes you can spot a yellowing and separation from the nail bed, small pitting holes, and lines running from tip to the cuticle, your nails can become brittle too.

Nope nothing like that with my nails as of yet.

------------------------

This is just how my head is. The skin of my scalp is inflamed and red, hot and tight. There is a layer of white small flakes like this photo, aswell as bigger 'scales' of yellow clumps.

EDIT: never mind, it won't let me post a link but its a picture of the thread you posted of someone's scalp which is similar to mine.

Its also in the top of my ears.

Just sitting on the laptop, looked down and theres flakes everywhere HuhHuh

Never had any sort of skin problem before, so really don't know how to tackle this. What can cause it? I have been under a lot of stress recently but I have been stressed before and haven't had this :(

I guess i'll have to go to the GP's, can't really take the burning and the 'tight' feeling when I move my head up and down.

Thanks

Put the link using the two tags below

As for what causes it, we wish we knew. But Stress can start it off, it's also said it's in your genes.

Try a bag of frozen peas on your head to cool it down or a cold damp towel.

This is very identical to my scalp at the moment. Its everywhere. Hmm don't think its in my family at all. It must be the stress! my dr did say something about a delay in skin problems after emotional distress. (I have recently gone on antidepressants). I wonder if this is linked. It just seems to of spread like wildfire. It started as a couple of small clumps and its now covering my entire head. Peas sound like a good idea!
My father in law has picked me up a few natural treatments, I dont know if you will know them but I have salcura shampoo, and salcura dermaspray. I'm going to start using these and see if they help. Perhaps I will see if I can pick up a more natural conditioner too, I suppose the chemicals are aggravating it.

Yes that is scalp psoriasis and emotional distress can bring it on, but antidepressants won't cause it.

Have a read at these threads about Salcura
