First time .

Good day folks . First time on any forum so here goes . Had P for about 40 years or more and like most people have tried every flipping thing good and bad . Puva has been my number one choice and it always worked like a dream normally for 6 to 12 months . Sadly the doctors are getting nervous about how much sun I have accumulated over the years so change of tactic . Today I have started a course of treatment using Humira 80 mg today , then down to 40 mg . Had a bad time with the self injection but will have to get used to it . It took a long time to get on this treatment "penny pinching" in my mind £7000 a year a read . My big concern is a whole list of side effects . Are any of you guys on the medication and if so any advise . Fingers crossed it goes well . Thanks for the invite .

Some people have had very good results with Humira and still do, unfortunately for me I had a reaction to it and had to stop, But don't let it put you off, I'm a fan of the Bio treatments and there are more and more coming through as well as some established ones.

I have yet to find anyone who has had any serious side effects, and you will be monitored well with regular blood tests. The trouble is with the Bio's as they are still fairly new they are often in the news and often spoken about, but that doesn't mean every patient suffers with the listed side effects. I would say the side effects are minimal compared to drugs like Methotrexate, though you will probably feel some flu like feelings when you first start. (But they will pass)

Thanks Fred , have already found useful information from a post buy TANLOV . Lets see where this treatment takes me . If you don't mind me asking , how long did you take HUMIRA before you came off it ?

I was only on it about a month or so, but I had already had a reaction to Remicade before so that could have made things worse. We will never know as they won't put me back on them to see, I did however do well on Enbrel but it just stopped working after about 18 months and I've been on Stelara almost 5 years now.

Hi there SOUNDSRIGHT it's good to see you have taken the first step with joining a forum. You will find us a great bunch of sufferers. With psoriasis of one sort or another in common, so we are able to empathysye with fellow sufferers , as you have probably noticed there is a fair exchange of views on here about various treatments but you will see that we all treat other people's views with respect.... i hope you enjoy your time here

I like you have run through the NHS list of treatments until finally finding the one I'm on Which has kept me virtually clear for over 3 years. Your doctors are right to be wary of to much UV I used to get good clearance with it as well.
I hope the Humira gives you clearance and you get used to self injecting and as Fred has suggested it might be an idea to start a thread so you can keep track on your progress

Welcome to the forum soundsright , it's a great forum with people who know what everyone is going through because we are all in the same boat .Loads of info and all you need is to ask a question and somebody will have some experience to pass on, mind you we are all different so what works for one does not necessarily work for another same with the side effects. By the way it is full of nutty people on here with sympathy and knowledge so welcome again and enjoy.

Thanks for the welcome . Just a little information . First two injections of Humira yesterday . Expected some reaction at the injection points so far nothing at all . Perhaps I just got lucky .

Well done it's no small matter going to self inject for the first time ... I'm sure now you have managed that it will become easier. And I'm glad you didn't have a reaction .

I was on Humira too.

When i was told i had to self inject, i thought, "they are bloody kidding, self inject !?"

Surely the nurse does it i thought ???

Wrong !!!!



At first, i had a nasty vision of a 6" nail going into my leg, I winced in anticipation as i pressed, fired it.............................& all i felt was a very slight scratch !

It is nerve racking but you do get use to it mate.

And, i found Humira to be very good indeed for my P.
