Hi guys I got psoriasis from 2009 I tried all possible treatments, from February last year I'm on fumaderm.First 3 months was terrible for my stomach now is fine.Question is I been on 6 tablets, than 4 tablets and at the minute just 2.But about 6 weeks when I start take it 2 psoriasis come back on my knees and elbows and is more biggest and thickness. My consultant said that I have take bigger dose again but I had not really good blood test for liver. Maybe someone has similar situation because I take it 4 tablets from last 3 weeks and psoriasis is still the same, maybe I have to use dovobet again?? Bigarm

Hello Pablo,

As this is your first post, at first a welcome to the forum. Welcome

On the fumaderm that is difficult. YouR derm is right, if it is coming back then the dose should have to be increased, then 2x120 is too less for you.
But if your liver count is not good, that decision is difficult. With DMF, the working ingredient of fumaderm, as far as I know there can be side effects on the liver, but they are very rare.
I think you should have a long conversation with your derm to discuss this topic, e.g. You could try to work to a situation that you increase the dose again, but at the same time increase the number of blood checkups. You you can carefully look what is happening to your liver.

Cheers,
Caroline

Hi Pablo and a big  Welcome  to the forum / club we are a small but very friendly bunch of psoriasis sufferers here. And we are always willing to share our experiences with each other as its a lonely disease otherwise, a common mention on here is that it's difficult for others to understand the way we feel about ourselves, even close family can never understand unless they also have the disease ... A life sentence....but you have found us so there is no need to suffer in silence ... Feel free to join in

I'm glad to meet another Fumaderm user we have a number of us here now, and it's always good to read of others experiences of the drug....

I'm sorry that your psoriasis has started coming back due to the maintenance dose not being high enough, as Caroline says, you must take care due to your liver readings... But working with your dermatologist you should be able to get the liver readings back and possibly increase the dose again .. It's said that the bloods and organs will revert to normal at the reduction of dose .... So as caroline has suggested more regular monitoring and hopefully increase the dose, with the blessing of your dermatologist

I myself fell to low on my maintenance dose, and started to develop new plaques my blood levels returned to normal and I have increased the dose to 4 a day for a while and my plaques are going.... It's not fast but the blood levels have held up and I can see clearance coming in the near future
Good luck and if you have any questions don't hesitate to post .... Dovobet is a good idea, I use a steroid cream myself to assist the Fumaderm until I get clearance again
I look forward to hearing how you progress
Jim

I think you can continue to take it As long as it keeps working.
You will get to a maintenance dose for me it's 4 tablets a day, we have one member who is on one tablet a day, and has been for years.
I myself have been on fumaderm for nearly 4 years now
There is nothing as far as I know in the preparation to hurt the body. So I don't think there is a time limit on taking it.
I'm sure Caroline will confirm this  as she is the DMF expert here

I am on it since about 2000... I know of people here in NL who have been way longer on it.
Basically the DMF transforms into a fumarate that is a substance which is normal for you body. The energy cycle of our cells use it. Probably this is why it can be used very long.
Very occasionally it stops working.
