Have a look and see what you haven't been on .....ask questions here but remember they are unlikely to start you on Cosentyx......I hope I'm wrong but phone them and tell them the creams are useless for severe psoriasis and you have read the standards that fred gave a link for ... tell them it's not good enough and you demand better

Welcome to Psoriasisclub.

I bet you have never been on Fumaderm. Smile  just a gamble.  Cool

Anyway, list all your treatments and go back to the dermatologist. Avoid methotrexate, it may work, but also may harm you.
If you don't get Cosentyx, then either Stelara (not so strong with the arthritis) or Fumaderm are possible replacements.

Good luck going back ....but I would start making noises on the phone to them now ....that the current treatment is a joke and you can't believe that they think it will work now when it never has in the past ...tell them it's getting you down it's difficult to deal with life while plagued with the disease and no effective treatment ...lay it on thick and you might get what you want ...but be prepared to try other things first .Fumaderm has been good for me for over 5 years and helps with my psoriatic arthritis as well

Glad you like the forum, yes it is a great friendly club

Welcome, Martin.

Like you, I have had psoriasis for a bit over 27 years and had no wish to take methotrexate. About four and a half years ago I started taking the active agent in Fumaderm and I have had great results with it.

I have mixed feelings about my obstinance, and although I would still refuse methotrexate, I acknowledge that it is a very good treatment for some. I am extremely lucky that the first treatment I tried worked well beyond my expectations, although I have had to customise it. My view now is that you have to give treatments a go, and the notion that you can work it all out for yourself with a bit of reading is very naive. You might have your heart set on secukinumab, but it may fail you miserably, yet a cheaper treatment could serve you well. I am a great believer in public health and measure a civilization by its treatment of those in need, but if you dont like the way the system works you can always pay for your own treatment as I have done.

I hope you get some effective treatment soon.

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Martin, nice to meet you!

Have you had a look online for the NICE pathway for psoriasis?

You just have to have tried various treatments and shown they are not suitable/ do not work before moving on to biologics.

If you had methotrexate they should have a record of that and what went wrong for you with it, be it side effects or it failing to work. They don't force you to stay on something if the side effects are affecting your life. I didn't find mtx too bad but it did stop working after about a year on it so they moved me on to the next thing.

No need to apologise, people can't read all the posts. I just remembered I had posted it.
