Hello
I am new to The forum.
A week and a half ago I started Fumaderm. Early days i know.
I moved to 2, 30mg tablets on Tuesday. I took them at night and woke up the next day bright red. It didn't last long and I was my normal colour by 1.
I let the doc know and they called me in for a look but I was back to nirmal.
They could not explain this. They said maybe it was flushing and told me to take the tabs at separate times.
Nothing happened Thursday
Today I took a tablet at 630. I had my dinner at 830. At 945 my skin went insane. I felt hot and sore and mad itchy. When I looked i had once again turned pink from head to toe
I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced flushing like this. It is still going at the moment and i am on fire.
The doctor seemed to think flushing was only face and chest... Anyone else has whole body redness??
Thanks in advance
Cheers ☺

Hi Meeee and  Welcome to the forum you are not taking them correctly that's why the flushing is intense
The flushing is normal at the start of treatment . Do you take your tablets with meal and plenty of fluid as you should
On 2 initial tablets you should be on one in the morning and one with your evening meal try to have some yogurt after the meal
I am on Fumaderm and would say accept the side effects as that tends to show that  the Fumaderm is reacting with your body.
I have been on it for six years and it has given me clearance
Good luck I am  always happy to help a fellow Fumaderm user ...so any questions just ask away

Jim

Thanks Jim
I was given no instruction for taking the fumaderm. So itis great to get some. I did ask the pharmacist if I needed to take them with food or anything. He said no. Just try take them at the same time each day.
The flushing came today even though it had been  18 hours since my previous dose (missed taking one this morn as was late for work and ran out of the house!) Only took one At 630 and am going to take another before bed so shouldn't have too high a dose in me when it happened.
Was just worried it was an allergy. Really don't want to have to stop when the idea of being clear is within grasp...I
Thanks again for your help.
Will get a better routine for taking the tablets! And will up my water intake with them.  And have a yogurt Big Grinand

Yes only take them with meals I have put the instructions on for you ...if you take them with meals and fluid it should make the side effects easier to put up with .....I wouldn't take one tonight I would leave it to take with your breakfast then it will get into your intestines with the meal ( and yogurt)
It is a good sign if you are getting side effects ...but they could be easier if you take them properly ...
Sounds as if your doctor and pharmacist aren't sure about the tablets as they have given you bad advice ..

Welcome to the club I hope you enjoy it here and I'm glad to see you have subscribed to our newsletter Thumb

Welcome.

Flushing is normal with DMF (active ingredient in Fumaderm), and there is opinion that the stuff will work well for you if you get flushing early on. DMF is also in Tecfidera and taken for a form of multiple sclerosis. I have read that you can reduce flushing by taking aspirin (if you can take aspirin) before dosing. I have not tried this as the flushing I get is pretty mild.

Cheers

Hello Meee81,

Welcome to psoriasisclub Wave

I am also a previous user of DMF. And indeed the flushing is normal (and basically innocent), but it seems very heavy when I read your comments.
With me it normally lasted between 20 and 30 minutes by the way, and over my whole body. It started tickling in my head and then I became very warm and red while this sensation went down over my body. After a while then my head started to cool down again and the rest of my body followed. I was on a 5x120 dose.

The advice that Jim and and Bill are giving you is correct. Take it with a good meal and end that with something slimey like yoghurt. I am stunned by the advice of your pharmacist Wall
The trick of the aspirin is rather new, I have not tried it myself, it is originally from Maryam.

I wish you very much luck with DMF, cause if it works for you then you will have an excellent medication, which can work for a long time.

Enjoy on psoriasisclub.

Caroline

Hello Meee81, I see you have met the DMF Gang and I'm sure they will offer very good advise.

I will however move this thread to Prescribed Treatments For Psoriasis as it is better suited there and could help others find it easier. I have also given it a more relevant title "Fumaderm and Flushing"

You are welcome to start another thread in Introductions if you wish to meet some of the other members too.

Welcome to Psoriasis Club by the way.  Wave

UThanks everyone for all the advice. Really appreciate it! Was worrying when the doc said the flushing should be limited to my face but glad to hear another who has had it head to toe. Hopefully as you all say it is just that the mess are working and I feel that it is not the worst side effect I could have.
Am currently on on 2x30mg dose.
Will defo take them with food from now on and something “slimey” or yogurty to end.
Thank you again!!
This club is great. So friendly and welcoming. Thank you
Bigarm
