Makes me panic a bit...what exactly is the definition of long term use. My boy has been using the steriod creams for months now. Very sparingly and we stop or slow down now and then but its the only option we have been given until now.

They are designed to be used for a 4 week period. So read into that what you will.

I bet 90% of our members using steroid cream/sprays don't use them as the manufacturers intended.

Months in my personal opinion is not good if using daily, but a little bit now and then to get back on top of things is fine.

I'm not in your position as I don't have children, but steroid creams/sprays are never going to work and will only get it down for a while. They are not something I would be happy using long term on anyone let alone a child if I had one, but again it's only my opinion.

Oh and I also think you should be weaned off them and not suddenly stop as that can make the psoriasis flare up.

Thanks Fred, I do want him off of them asap. Hoping positive results happen quickly with the phototherapy and we can stop use (slowly).

Sorry to throw another spanner in the works, but I noticed Enstilar says "avoid excessive exposure to either natural or artificial sunlight" I know it's not Enstilar you are using, but I have a recollection of this being the same with other steroid creams.

Maybe worth asking about as I could be wrong.

I think that’s a sensible precaution not to use the creams on the day of uv treatment :tumb:

Didn't read the entire thread, so I'm sorry if this is mentioned already;

If you have to use it on large surfaces, get your self a suit like medicare, padycare etc. I personally think the ones coated with silver are amazing, but not al insurances cover them anymore and their expenisive... If you have to apply on your wholy body, like I had to do, than the derm will prescribe it and it is covered bij your insurance. The suit enhances the effectiveness of the ointment and you clothes do not stick to your skin.

If it's only a small spot, than apply something on it that doesn't suck up the ointment, that means it can work longer, better and probably with a lesser amount.

Oooooooo  a space suit. Thank you Maryam, but I only have a little.

Ok I have now been using Enstilar for 1 week.

Left hand then and now:

Right hand then and now:

As you can see it has worked, but it's done no better than the Diprosone that I use for a flare-up.

It's not done anything for the underarms or the groin area and another patch on my torso that is just flat and red has not changed. I have also tried it on my legs, but again it's been no better that Diprosone.

I can see that it would be a good product for flakes and would soon get it down, but for me my rare flare-ups are usually just flat and red and it has not done anything for that.

I don't like the sticky greasy feel just the same as Dovobet Gel, and it does stain your clothes. I'm now walking around each day with a grease stain on the back of my clean t-shirt, and my trouser legs are are felling all clammy. Angry

I will keep a can on hand for if I do ever get a bad case of flakes, but I'm not going to continue with it. I prefer a cream and Doprosone is much milder and easier to apply, plus the added benefit of not making everything greasy.

All in all I would say it's good for hitting flakes hard but it's not for me.

Space suits are amazing!

Fred, it's the sticky feeling why I recommend to use special clothes and/or bandage-like stuff to cover up the applied area's. Not only does it work better that way, but you also don't have to deal with feeling like a giant gluestick. I also think that's why it doesn't work ass well on some area's of the body, especially when it's a part that is covered by clothes, it get's wiped away or sucked up before it can even do a thing.

Enstilar was the one and only ointment that I could apply easily AND moisturized the skin a fair bit. I think dermatologists should also prescribe the right suite/bandage things when prescribing creams/lotions/ointments etc.

I doubt that will happen Maryam especially with Enstilar:

Application under occlusive dressings should be avoided since it increases the systemic absorption of corticosteroids.

I think most creams say to use without occlusion, though I know we do have some here that do use it that way.

And personally I would'nt want to walk around in a space suit or be wrapped up in bandages. Too messy for my liking, I prefer to rub in a cream.
